Pile up on 20 meter band, also pile up in 10 meter band : 13 Mac 2011

Hari ahad yang lepas, 13 mac 2011. Mungkin hari minggu yang biasa bagi sesetengah orang. Tapi bagi orang radio macam kita ni, hari minggu adalah hari yang sibuk sekali. Ini adalah kerana mungkin pada hari minggu inilah ramai pengendali radio di seluruh dunia menggunakan kesempatan ini untuk ke udara dan bertemu dengan rakan-rakan sekalian yang bertaburan di seluruh pelusuk muka bumi ini.

Bermula seawal jam 8.00 pagi...pada mulanya aku hanya dxing di 20m band. Tiba-tiba, alarm cluster aku ada menyatakan, 9w2esm on 10 meter!, maka dengan sepantas kilat aku pusing tombol berkilat ft 77 aku ke fre 10m. Memang betullah...10m sedang open, membuka dengan cantik sekali...penuh dengan BAND WORMS, istilah untuk bunyi kiuk-kiuk dalam band.

Dengan 50 watt, 2 element on 10m ( 6 ele 3 band dal beam) dan batang besi, aku memulakan dxing aku di 10m dengan penuh kesabaran. Menakjubkan...panggilan aku disahut...malah disahut oleh pelbagai callsign dari Amerika Utara, Jepun, Australia, Korea Selatan, Thailand, Vietnam, Italy, China, Britain, Russia dan Amerika Selatan... aku pile up di 10m...

Syukur alhamdulliah...puas...tersenyum...dan tersengih sendiri...xyl pun hairan..apa kena dengan laki aku ini...dah le sepagi asyik ketuk...sampai roti canai pun tak jamah...kopi lagilah...hehe...nanti bila awak ada callsign nanti..awak akan faham dengan sendirinya....

Ingatkan ianya akan habis begitu sahaja...malam tu..selepas selesai menjamu selera...bergembira seketika bersama harmonik...sekali lagi alarm cluster menjerit... 9m6tmt on 20m. Hmm...band 20m sedang membuka pulak...tapi tak mengapa...malam masih muda...memang ada dalam jadual aku...setiap jam 11.00 malam aku akan ke udara. Hidup mestilah seimbang...selepas semuanya selesai diuruskan..aku perlahan-lahan menuju ke bilik radio aku...band sedang galak sekarang...detik hati aku...dengan penuh ketenangan...besi diketuk..penuh dengan penghayatan...setiap dit dan dah itu dihayati iramanya...begitu indah sekali iramanya...tiada yang dapat mengalahkannya..kalah lagu Siti Nurhaliza...

Malam ini aku hulurkan 50 watt dan arah Utara....terperanjat aku...pile lagi...aku pile up pulak di 20m band....Hari minggu yang bermakna bagi aku....

Begitu sukar sekali untuk mendapatkan callsign dari negara bekas jajahan British ni, setakat ini sahaja yang aku mampu dengan berbekalkan 6 element 3 Bander Dal Beam dan 50 watt FT-77.
Banyak sekali stesen dari Eropah dan Amerika utara dan Amerika selatan cuba masuk tetapi mereka dikecualikan...dan dikira sebagai stesen dx sahaja. Apapun contest kali ini amat mencabar sekali kerana kita perlu mengasingkan callsign-callsign dan perlu juga merujuk buku sejarah kembali...untuk mengenalpasti negara bekas jajahan British ini. Kalau stesen lain dikira....untung juga aku....

Commonwealth Contests

A DX contest and DX means long distance and challenging radio contacts'

RSGB Commonwealth Contest Rules

The Commonwealth Contest promotes contacts between stations in the Commonwealth and Mandated Territories. A more relaxed contest environment gives the opportunity to work some choice DX.

Time: 1000 -1000UTC

Bands: 3.5, 7, 14, 21, 28MHz. Activity is normally concentrated in the lower 30kHz of each band

Mode: CW

Exchange: RST plus serial number. HQ stations will additionally send HQ, which must be logged

1. Eligible entrants:
Land-based stations operated by licensed radio amateurs within the Commonwealth or British Mandated Territories (as defined by the RSGB call-area list) are eligible to enter. UK entrants must be members of the RSGB. Sections (a) and (b) are for single-operator stations who may not receive any assistance whatsoever during the contest, including the use of spotting nets, packet cluster or other assistance in finding new contacts or bonuses. Additionally, with the specific exception of the HQ station GB5CC, UK stations may not use any special callsign. Remote operation is permitted, but in addition to the requirements of the General Rules, the operator must be within the same Commonwealth Call Area as the other elements of the station.

2. Sections:

(a) Open
24 hour operation - full legal limit on power - no antenna restrictions.
OR
12 hour operation - full legal limit on power - no antenna restrictions.

(b) Restricted
24 hour operation - output power limited to 100 watts - antenna restricted to single element.
OR
12 hour operation - output power limited to 100 watts - antenna restricted to single element.

For stations in the 12-hour categories, off periods must be clearly defined in the Soapbox field of the Cabrillo file and a minimum of 60 minutes in length. However, time before the first contact, and after the final contact, may be of any length. Stations opting to operate for a maximum of 12 hours will be annotated in the results listings.

The term “single element” defines each antenna (eg. dipole, vertical, long-wire, etc), and does not preclude the use of different single-element antennas during the contest. However, the concurrent use of one single-element antenna for transmitting and another (eg beverage) for receiving is not permitted.

(c) Multi-Operator / Assisted
24 hour operation - single transmitted signal - full legal limit on power - no antenna restrictions - packet cluster use permitted.

3. Scoring: Contacts may be made with any station using a Commonwealth Call Area prefix, except those within the entrant's own call area. Note that for this contest, the entire UK counts as one call area, and therefore UK stations may not work each other. Each contact scores 5 points with a bonus of 20 points for each of the first three contacts with each Commonwealth Call Area on each band. Commonwealth Call Areas

4. Headquarters stations: A number of Commonwealth Society HQ stations will be active during the contest and will send HQ after their serial number, to identify themselves. Only one HQ station is permitted per Commonwealth Call Area. Each HQ station counts as an additional call area, and entrants may contact any HQ station (including one in their own call area) for points and bonuses, the annotation HQ being made in the log where appropriate.
5. Team Competition:
(a) Each team will consist of up to ten stations. In addition to Australia, Canada, Great Britain, New Zealand and Rest of the World teams, any Commonwealth country or geographical region may enter one or more teams. An individual station may only represent one team, and may compete in the Open or Restricted section. Each station's log must be submitted in the normal way.
(b) Each team will have a captain who must submit a list of the team members to commonwealth.contest@rsgbcc.org no later than seven days before the start of the contest. Substitutions may be accepted up to the start of the contest.
(c) Stations in the Rest of the World team(s) may only be drawn from countries not submitting their own team.

6. Team Scoring:
(a) The team score is the sum of individual adjudicated scores, with all stations located in the southern hemisphere or on the equator having their final score multiplied by a “latitude factor”.
(b) The “latitude factor” will be re-calculated each year based on published scores: for each hemisphere, the highest-scoring team total for each of the last three years will be used to give an overall total and the factor will be calculated as the ratio of the northern to the southern grand totals rounded down to the nearest two decimal places. The latitude factor for 2010 will be .
(c) Each team member is competing as a single-operator within the overall contest, and no passing of information between team members during the event is permitted, except that team members may work each other for points and/or bonuses where the contest rules allow.

7. Logs: Each entry must indicate the section entered, and should contain the full postal address of the entrant. Electronic logs must be submitted in Cabrillo format to http://www.rsgbcc.org/cgi-bin/hfenter.pl

Paper logs must be submitted in chronological QSO order and show time; band; callsign worked; RST+serial sent; received exchange; points. For full details see the general rules at www.rsgbcc.org/hf. 8. Closing date for logs: Logs must be received no later than one calendar month after the end of the contest.

9. Awards:
(a) Open: The Senior Rose Bowl to the overall leader. The Col Thomas Rose Bowl to the highest-placed UK station.

(b) Restricted: The Junior Rose Bowl to the section leader. The John Dunnington Trophy to the highest-placed UK station who has not won the trophy in the preceding two years.

(c) The Ross Carey Rose Bowl to the highest-placed UK station in the 12-hour category, regardless of section. The VP8GQ Trophy to the highest-placed non-UK station (who has not won the trophy in the preceding two years) in the 12-hour category, regardless of section.

(d) A Commonwealth Medal will be awarded to the entrant who in the opinion of the HF Contests Committee has most improved their score or contributed to the contest over the years.

(e) A special “Commonwealth Traveller” certificate will be awarded to the highest-scoring entrant in the Open or Restricted sections who operates from a Commonwealth Call Area not represented in the published results of the previous year’s contest. At the discretion of the HF Contests Committee, additional “Commonwealth Traveller” certificates may be awarded to entrants from especially inaccessible Call Areas.

(f) A certificate will be awarded to the highest-scoring station using QRP (5 watts or less). Such stations must identify themselves by CATEGORY: QRP in the Cabrillo header.

Japan Earthquake HF Comms

Hearing Japan Maritime Self-Defense Forces on 6751 kHz in USB mode. Both aircraft and ground stations very loud here in California. One aircraft gave position of 36.59N 140.53E putting them near the tsunami zone. Also getting activity from Japan SDF on 6727, 5690 and 5693 all related to earthquake. nickcarr reports 6742 USB is another frequency with station wkg Japanese sounding aircraft. Tokyo MWARA traffic has been monitored on 6655 kHz USB. Vambo from #wunclub reports 6640 busy with phone patch traffic for diversions. I will post more frequencies as they are found.

Dx Expedition : Gunung Belumut, Kluang, Johor

U free tak hujung minggu ni, itu soalan pertama yang keluar dari mulut aku semasa minum bersama Danial di TJ Mart. Kalau u free, jom kita try dxing kat Gunung Belumut, Kluang...Hmm..tengok dulu, aku confirmkan esok. Kalau jadi aku call atau text kau...Akhirnya confirm, aku dan Danial bertolak dari Kulai pada pukul 10.00 malam. Dengan berpandukan GPS, kami akhirnya selamat sampai di kaki gunung pada pukul 12.45 malam. Suasana pada malam tu sungguh sejuk sekali dan gelap gulita...manakala bunyi cengkerik begitu nyaring sekali memecah kesunyian malam.

Peralatan yang dibawa ialah Yaesu Ft 897, Full Length G5RV antenna, power supply, voice recorder, laptop dan kabel antenna....boleh dikatakan ianya adalah setup yang paling simple sekali dalam hutan tersebut.

G5RV pula dipasang secara inverted V, di gantung dari atas pokok ke bawah.

Objektif dxing kali ialah untuk menguji bagaimana pancaran dan penerimaan G5RV semasa berada dalam hutan tebal dan bergunung-ganang ini. Seperti kita sedia maklum, dalam hutan, antenna yang sesuai sekali untuk beroperasi ialah wayar antenna, tidak kiralah apa jenisnya samada dipole, g5rv, loop antenna, delta loop dan long wire. Tapi kali ini kami try dulu g5rv. Yagi tidak sesuai kerana dalam hutan tebal sebegini mana nak dapat ruang...semuanya penuh dengan dedaun yang hijau kehijaun ini. Subbahanallah...

Didapati g5rv ini begitu bagus dalam penerimaan, good in receiving....banyak stesen dari Eropah, India, Hong Kong, China dan Australia kedengaran di band 20m. Manakala signal yang diterima pulak... cantik 5 dan 9, malah ada yang mencecah 20 db. Semua stesen yang kami terima itu cantik sekali signal mereka... 59 plus...tetapi apabila tiba giliran 9M4CJB pula memancar, respon yang diterima agak kurang sedikit, mereka menyatakan bahawa signal dari kami hanya sekitar 55 to 56. Very weak audio and full with QRM...

Aku rasa aku tahu mana datangnya QRM tu, qrm tu datangnya dari Gen Set yang hanya terletak 7 meter dari kami. Memang agak bising dia punya bunyi...memeritkan telinga...

Manakala di band 40m pula, lain pula ceritanya, signal yang diterima dari jiran tetangga pulak mantap sekali, ada yang mencecah sehingga 20 db ke atas. Running with 897 barefoot and using inverted v g5rv, band 40m dapat kami tawan. Report yang diterima dari Jakarta menyatakan bahawa signal 9M4CJB amat kuat sekali, u are 59 over 10db, kata YB0AR. Begitu jugak stesen lokalan kita, 9m2ody...beliau jugak menyatakan signal kita orang amat cantik sekali, diterima 5 dan 9 bang...cantik.

Kesimpulannya, G5RV ini amat mantap sekali di band 40m dan 80m. Proses tuning pun senang.

Di bawah ini sedikit tentang latar belakang Gunung Belumut untuk informasi rakan-rakan semua.

Gunung Belumut yang terletak 18 km di timur Kluang ialah gunung kedua tertinggi di negeri Johor, Malaysia. Tingginya 1,010 meter, sedangkan tinggiGunung Ledang yang merupakan gunung yang tertinggi di negeri ini 1,276 meter.

Perkataan "Belumut" merujuk kepada batang-batang pokok yang dilitupi oleh tumbuhan-tumbuhan hijau. Serupa dengan banyak hutan di Malaysia, terdapatnya harimau di gunung ini. Bagaimanapun, harimau Malaysia biasa takut akan manusia dan akan menyembunyikan diri. Walaupun demikian, Gunung Belumut pernah ditutup buat sementara waktu pada pertengahan1990an disebabkan seekor harimau yang menyerang ternakan di sebuah kampung di sana.

Salah satu tarikan gunung ini ialah "Batu Mahkota", sebuah batu yang kelihatannya seolah-olah satu mahkota raksasa, dan dapat dilihat selepas penggembaraan berjalan kaki selama dua jam.
